Fremont Studios to host Rock for DMD Research

The Rock for DMD Research concert planners have found a venue.

After they found out in late February that the benefit concert could not be held as planned in SPU’s Royal Brougham Pavilion, junior Conrad Reynoldson and his team of 30 volunteers were pressed to find a venue for the concert scheduled for April 11. The university cited concerns about security as well as timing conflicts with other pre-planned events for why the concert could not take place in Royal Brougham.

The university’s decision to not allow the concert to happen on campus caught the attention of Seattle media outlets, such as the Seattle Post-Intelligence and KOMO News.

Last week, the group found a venue: Fremont Studios, located 1.4 miles away from campus.

Reynoldson and other volunteers could be reached for comment.

Reynoldson and his team have been planning the concert, featuring Grammy-nominated Christian rock band Pillar, since October. Since then, he and his team have raised $12,000 in donations and sponsorships for the costs of throwing the concert.

They plan to donate the proceeds of the show to the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, a national organization that works to “improve the treatment, quality of life and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) through research, advocacy, education and compassion,” according to the Parent Project Web site.

The group’s goal is to raise $25,000 through the concert.
