Falcon needs to practice what it preaches
I would like to applaud Bekah Grim for her article on
environmentalism. It's true that as Christians, we are called to be
stewards of God's creation (Genesis 1:26). I share Grim's
disappointment in SPU's lack of participation in Earth Day.
Other Christian universities celebrated the day by hosting
events ranging from creative recycling workshops to environmental
restoration projects. We should not allow this issue to become
polarized by politics, nor should we limit our environmental
consciousness to one day.
Perhaps The Falcon itself could set an example for the SPU
community by reducing the number of papers printed each week.
Hundreds of Falcon newspapers are never read; we've all seen the
untouched stacks around campus. Eliminating this excess would be a
responsible step toward reducing waste at SPU.

Health insurance situation frustrating for many
students
It was so frustrating to read the article in The Falcon about
how many students are without insurance. It a disgrace that we live
in a country where you have to sacrifice your health and well-being
just to get an education.
I, too, was without insurance for a long time, but because of my
low income and being in school, I found out I was eligible for
insurance through Washington state called Basic Health. It is not
outstanding insurance, but I pay $17 a month to have my medical
bills covered, my prescriptions, and my eye exams and glasses.
I would urge anyone uninsured to check it out, because it only
takes one time of getting seriously ill to start racking up serious
debt in medical bills and compromising your education. God bless us
all.
