SPU style: scarves

All photos by Heather Linnenkohl/The Falcon

By now, most of us have seen SPU students strolling around campus, coffee in hand, but now with necks wrapped in a variety of fashionable scarves.

The trend is said to have come from Europe, although scarves have always been a part of any wardrobe for cold weather. Scarves are not only fashion-forward, but they also provide a practical way to keep warm (especially when there is snow outside in April!).

Something new we've seen this year is a bandana wrapped around the necks of both guys and girls. Are bandanas warmer alternatives to regular scarves, or are SPU students simply sporting a new trend? Where do these bandanas and scarves come from?

The following SPU students will tell you why they are wearing them, where they get them, and whether or not this trend will last through spring as the weather heats up.

Rani Ban
Freshman

Are you wearing the scarf for fashion or to keep warm?
Well, I like to wear art everyday, and scarves give me a way of doing that.

Where did you buy it?
A thrift store

When it warms up, will you still wear your scarf?
No.

Well, in my family, we always wore them. I grew up in Indiana where it is very cold, so I wore them to keep warm.

I got this at home from a box of winter clothes.

I will wear my bandana, yes, but not my scarf.
