Freshman Amber Rose Jimenez
Major: Political Science
Hometown: Hollywood, Calif.

Where do you currently live?
1st East Ashton

Why did you choose to come to SPU?
I feel like I didn't. I feel like God did, because if it were my choice, I would have stayed in California. I don't know what it was about this school that initially drew me because I don't think it was as much academics as it was the fact that it was a Christian school. I've gone to public school my whole life.

Favorite professor at SPU so far?
There's two: Dr. Davis and Dr. MacDonald.

Do you know what you want to do after you graduate?
I want to be the mayor of Los Angeles.

What's your mode of transportation around Seattle?
My roommate. Well, that could be misconstrued. I mean her car.

Would you be or are you a vegetarian?
No, I'm not a vegetarian.

Do you have a favorite restaurant in Seattle?
No.

Are you a coffee drinker?
I don't like coffee, but I drink it sometimes.

How do you study? Do you have certain habits or techniques?
I have to clean everything before I study just because that's part of procrastinating.

Favorite musician/band at the moment?
I would have to say genre, rather than band, because there's so many. I love punk, and a couple bands I'm into are Bad Religion, the Dead Milkmen, and the Germs.

What have you been listening to recently?
Today, it was Gorilla Biscuits.

If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Abraham Lincoln. I've been reading a lot about him, and it'd be neat to know who he was instead of just hearing about him and stuff.

Do you have a job?
I have three. Noah's Bagels, I'm a housekeeper in Emerson, and I work at the C-Store.

Is there a presidential candidate who you might consider voting for?
That's hard. Um...not Obama.

Any hobbies/interests that help define you?
I love to listen to music, so these past two quarters, I've had my own radio show here on KSPU. I go to a lot of shows around Seattle and go to different punk bands and stuff, but I'm involved with securing a partnership with Local Chaos Productions in relation to KSPU and promoting their shows and playing their bands. I possibly want to establish a partnership so that I can work with a student group on campus that's promoting awareness of human trafficking, so maybe hosting benefit concerts. That's part of what I'm interested in: activism.

What's your favorite book?
"Brave New World."

Favorite movie(s) or any recent movies that you really enjoyed?
"The Godfather" is a classic...and "Fight Club."

Do you think any of the lifestyle expectations are unnecessary, or do you have any conflict with any of them?
Just the drinking, not that I drink or anything, or that I condone it. I just feel like we're in college, and it's part of being an adult, and I know that a lot of kids, when they're juniors or when they're about to be seniors, they turn 21. I think that if we fostered a more loving lifestyle here on campus in relation to kids not knowing the dangers and realities of that act, it would be more of a positive reinforcement. And getting people not to drink, not by force, but maybe by having forums or events that promote awareness instead of saying, "Oh, you can't do this," and not really having anything to back it up with; like having real facts instead of just, "Oh, it's not good for you."

What are your plans for this summer?
I really want to go to France with Dr. Davis, but I think that I'm going to get a couple jobs and do summer school.
