Next year will begin the new Office of University Ministries
program, taking the place of this year's Office of Campus
Ministries.
President Philip Eaton announced the major overhaul for the
Office of Campus Ministries in a campus-wide e-mail sent in late
winter quarter.
Taking on leadership of the Office of University Ministries will
be Dr. Stephen Newby, associate professor of music. Matthew Koenig,
minister of discipleship, will also be working to heading up the
new Office of University Ministries.
"We are hoping for much more community participation in
worship," Koenig said.
Included in the changes will be the placement of the Urban
Involvement and SPRINT programs under the leadership of the Perkins
Center.
"We bring a certain level of leadership around global and urban
issues. It's our area of expertise," said Tali Hairston, director
of the Perkins Center. "There is a direct relationship between what
the Perkins Center is about and SPRINT, Urban Involvement and
Latreia."
Koenig said the focus of the Office of University Ministries
would be discipleship and worship, which includes the creation of
the Center for Worship.
He also said the Center for Worship would provide resources for
studying different aspects of worship including history, genres,
theologies and how worship will function in the next 100 years.
Though they are in the works, changes for the Christian Faith
Exploration (CFE) program have not been solidified as of yet,
Koenig said.
"Whatever sort of structure the CFE part will hold is always a
means to an end of encouraging people to live out their faith,"
Koenig said. "We want to experience overall fellowship together
while not stifling people's creativity and ingenuity in what they
feel God is doing."
