Nathan Goode, ASSP vice president of finance, has resigned from
his student-elected position. Goode made his decision public during
a closed session of senate Monday night.
Goode, a senior, said he is leaving his position for personal
reasons. Junior Matt Sullivan is the only current candidate for the
office. If Sullivan is to take on Goode's responsibilities, he must
be confirmed by the ASSP senate, which plans to vote on the issue
on Feb. 5.
Because Goode is an elected official, Sullivan or another
replacement must be confirmed by a majority vote in senate,
according to the ASSP constitution and bylaws. Since Goode is
resigning before the fifth week of the quarter, the constitution
states that his replacement will be voted by special election in a
closed session of senate.
The resignation comes after weeks of consideration, Goode said,
and he will continue to make himself available as a resource for
ASSP.
According to an e-mail sent out to senators, Goode is vacating
the position in order to continue serving the SPU community in the
best possible way.
Although Goode said his replacement is not up to him, he is
currently training Sullivan to fill the position.
"I'll be training whoever is approved by senate," Goode said.
"Whether that is Matt or not is up to them."
Sullivan is currently the ASSP treasurer, and if elected, would
leave that position open.
Bethany Krumm, ASSP president, said that she has known about
Goode's decision since last week, and has been fully supportive,
although she is sad to see him leave.
Krumm said that a replacement for Sullivan's treasurer position,
if he is voted in as vice president of finance, would be found in
the next six weeks.
Krumm said that this is the first time that a member of the ASSP
core has resigned, to her knowledge.
"This is one of those things that sets you back for a while, but
it shows your character when you push through," she said.
