Some of the areas that are open for renovation discussion include Weter Hall.

A facelift and late-night coffee stand may be coming to Weter
Memorial Hall, if an Associated Students of Seattle Pacific (ASSP)
proposal is approved by the university administration.
The proposed renovation seeks to maintain a space that is useful
for many purposes, and is a comfortable hangout, according to ASSP
President Mike Kitson. The classrooms in the building would remain,
as well as space for the computers currently there.
"Weter is a perfect location to gather people," Kitson said in a
phone interview. "It's central to the campus and is
underutilized."
The Weter redesign has all students in mind, Kitson said.
Commuters, dorms residents and graduate students all need a space
to hang out on campus, especially later in the evening.
"The plan doesn't just call for Weter with nice stuff, but a
full-service coffee shop. Ideally it could be open from 7 p.m. to
midnight," Kitson said.
"A late-night coffee shop in Weter would provide a great place
other than the dorm lobbies to hang out on campus," said Courtney
Rablin, a sophomore living in Ashton. "Right now, I only go to
Weter about once a month to check my email on the computers, but I
would be really interested in a late-night coffee option," she
said.
Improving campus spaces has been one of Kitson's priorities as
president, and ASSP pinpointed Weter as an ideal space to improve
early in the year, he said.
A focus group of 10 students was created to discuss the needs of
students and possible uses of the space. The group met with Plant
Services and outside architects to go over ideas and develop floor
plans and color schemes for the building.
This is still a proposal in process, Kitson said. "ASSP has
advocated this to the administration, so the next step is in their
hands."
Kitson expects the administration to review the proposal within
the next month.
"Ideally, this remodel could happen over the summer," he said,
"but it's up to the administration to approve the proposal and
determine timing and funding."
The proposed design allows for movable furniture, along the
lines of what is currently in place, so that larger events could
still use the room, Kitson said.
Another thing to keep in mind, Kitson said, is that the two
classrooms in the building will still be used, so noise in the
space is a factor in the proposed designs.
"I have to stress that this is a proposal, and is not yet
guaranteed," Kitson said. "I'm hopeful that the university will
approve this, and they have been very helpful so far, helping to
bring in the architects."
"Creating a space for all students is very important," Kitson
said. "I think that a redesigned Weter would be very valuable to
the campus."
