Car watch option when students leave campus

In an effort to curb car break-ins during the holidays, the Office of Safety and Security is offering a car watch program for students who leave their vehicles on campus during school holidays.
“Students who are getting out of town load the car up the night before and then come back and find it broken into,” said Vic Peirsol, associate director of safety and security.
If students leave a set of keys with the Office of Safety and Security, security officers will direct students to park on the upper level of the Dravus parking lot.
Security officers will keep an eye on the students’ cars that are in the program during the Thanksgiving and Winter breaks.
“The upper level of the Dravus lot has good camera coverage and good lighting, and we think it will reduce the chances of someone’s car getting broken into,” Peirsol said.
Students can sign up for the car watch program at the Safety and Security office.
