Seattle Pacific’s men’s basketball team hosted its lone exhibition home game on Friday at Royal Brougham Pavilion, defeating Pacific Lutheran 72-48. The No. 9 Falcons never trailed. The game included nine scorers for SPU, led by senior guard Jobi Wall’s 14 points.

“We wanted to give everybody an opportunity tonight,” head coach Ryan Looney said. “We probably played more people than we would during a regular season game. We’re not going to fully understand where everyone is at until the regular season, so we will wait and see.”

Wall is one of four returning starters for the Falcons. Junior guard David Downs, who led the squad with 15.6 ppg last season, will once again pace the offense. Sophomore wing Riley Stockton earned a starting spot late last season in a defensive specialist role. Senior post Andy Poling also returns after putting up solid numbers in 2011-2012, 15.4 ppg and 7.4 rpg.

The new face in the starting lineup is junior forward Patrick Simon. A transfer from Washington State, Simon has made an immediate impact. Against PLU, Simon had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Simon is joined by junior wing Shawn Reid as the two transfers. Reid came from Montana State University. The Falcons added four players to the 2016 class, including three in-state players: guards Will Parker and Luke Hamlin and forward Mitch Penner. Freshman guard Brendan Carroll, from Brisbane, Australia, is the only international player on the roster.

The Falcons split their exhibition games. On Oct. 27, the Falcons fell to the University of Idaho 77-71 in Moscow, Idaho.

The regular season begins with the annual Sodexo Tip-Off Classic at Royal Brougham this weekend.
