This Monday was an important day for ASSP’s Senate as it was their final meeting of the 2016-2017 academic year.
The meeting served as a time to reflect on the work of ASSP Core and Senate, as well as a transition to the confirmation of next year’s Core.
Senate revisited old business pertaining to the operational budget for the 2017-2018 academic year.
ASSP Vice President of Finance Nathan Bennett and ASSP Vice President of Campus Activities Bilen Yitbarek announced that there was not a final number for the amount allotted to clubs for next year. A majority of the clubs have been approved, and the $8,100 allocated to clubs currently reflects the number that has been approved at this time.
Bennett also stated that any leftover funds from club allocation will be put into the club programming fund. Senate approved the 2017-2018 operational budget.
ASSP Executive Vice President Mara Kramer also took time during Monday’s meeting to individually recognize and thank each Senator and member of Core for their service this year.
Kramer also awarded the Senator of the Year Award to School of Health Sciences Senator Rachel Andrews. Senator at Large Maggie Sanchez received the Voice of Reason Award from Kramer as well.
The final meeting of Senate concluded with the formal swearing-in process of the 2017-2018 ASSP Core members.

ASSP President Lola Sosanya announced that they are looking for the best way to encourage people to give donations for the senior gift.
ASSP Vice President of Ministries Shongi Motsi announced that the Baccalaureate worship service will be held at Royal Brougham Pavilion on Friday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m. and that there will be an opportunity to remember both Paul Lee and Erin Kimminau. According to the event description, University Ministries and the Baccalaureate planning committee have been very intentional to plan a service that honors all graduates, including those who have passed away.
Yitbarek announced that Shapadooah in collaboration with the KSPU Spring Concert is on June 1.
Yitbarek also announced that club continuous forms are finished and that at the Leadership Celebration on May 16, ORP was announced as the organization of the year.
Bennett announced that finance forms are due Friday.
Andrews announced that two student proposals to attend the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Summer Conference from August 3-5 in Anaheim, California were approved.
College of Arts and Sciences Senator Joelle Morris announced that the portfolios show for seniors of the Family & Consumer Science School will be on June 6 in Upper Gwinn from 4 to 6 p.m.
