FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 2, Houston Dynamo 0 — Houston’s early-season road winning streak comes to an end as Seattle scores two first-half goals. Seattle plays at home again against the San Jose Earthquakes next Saturday.
90′ — Three minutes of added time announced as Christian Sivebæk comes on for Fredy Montero to finish the game.
83′ — On the ensuing free kick, Fernandez gets a card of his own for a little extracurricular activity in the box.
82′ — A little bit of a scuffle as Alvaro Fernandez goes down hard, and Seattle isn’t happy about it. It would have been Evans’ second yellow in quick succession had Toledo decided to give it. Fernandez is up and looks OK.
79′ — They’ve changed the official ruling on the first Seattle goal (again). Estrada gets credit now.
78′ — Brad Davis earns a yellow card for running over Fredy Montero. Toledo played advantage, but he came back to book Evans when the play stopped for a different foul.
70′ — Announced attendance is 38,304 tonight.
67′ — NBC Sports is reporting that Evans has a hamstring injury. Luiz Camargo has come on for Je-Vaughn Watson also. Camargo is the classic Brazilian center midfielder. Let’s see how he does with the ball.
61′ — Sounders make their first sub, as Servando Carrasco comes on for Brad Evans. Evans was just standing by Sigi Schmid on the sideline prior to the sub. He may have picked up an injury.
53′ — Montero and Fernandez combine well down the Sounders’ left side, but Levesque cannot finish Flaco’s ball into the box. He had no pressure and really could have done better there.
46′ — And we’re back. Houston kicks off to restart the game. Jermaine Taylor comes in at right back for Andre Hainault, who picked up a knock in that very early challenge.
Halftime — Seattle has played three good halves of soccer in the 2012 MLS season. Maybe the long road trip is starting to catch up with Houston, but Seattle deserves to be up 2-0 at the break. I wonder if we’ll see Luiz Camargo off the bench in the second half for Houston. I also wonder if and when David Estrada’s form drops back to earth.
45′ — Two minutes of stoppage time announced at the end of the first half.
37′ — Seattle’s first goal has been changed to an own goal by Houston’s Geoff Cameron.
35′ — This game is physical. Adam Moffat is the first player to get a yellow card, but this game could see a red if referee Baldomero Toledo doesn’t take a firmer stance on some of the challenges.
26′ GOAL — Geoff Cameron is not having a great span here. He pushes Ianni in the back and gives Seattle a penalty kick. Brad Davis tucks it away in the bottom right-hand corner. Seattle 2, Houston 0.
23′ GOAL — David Estrada gets a lot of help from a deflection off Geoff Cameron there, but his volley from 23 yards out gets past Tally Hall. Seattle Sounders FC 1, Houston Dynamo 0.
18′ — Brian Ching finds Will Bruin with a good controlling touch, and Bruin lasers a shot one-time that Gspurning does well to tip over the bar. Houston looks dangerous on crosses tonight, and Gspurning had a stern word with his defense after that last little phase of play.
9′ — Early chippy play, as Houston’s Andre Hainault goes down, and so does Seattle’s David Estrada, but both are right back up and fine.
1′ — Montero and Estrada get us underway in Seattle, and Sounders v Dynamo has kicked off.
7:20 — Very nice rendition of the national anthem by SPU’s own Dr. Stephen Michael Newby.
7:10 — The teams are about to enter the field at CenturyLink. I’ll talk to you at kickoff. Enjoy the national broadcast, and thanks for following along with me here.
7:04 — Some lineup notes here: Seattle — Jeff Parke ends up on the bench for the second week behind Patrick Ianni. Roger Levesque fills into the midfield in Mauro Rosales’ spot. The Montero-Estrada pair is back up top. On the bench, Alex Caskey and goalkeeper Bryan Meredith make their first appearances in the game-day 18 for the Sounders. Houston — Luiz Camargo is about 75 percent fit, a Dynamo spokesman said. He could see some action tonight, but he’s not ready to start yet. Some Seattle connections on the roster: goalkeeper Tally Hall is from Gig Harbor; Brian Ching was a USL Sounder; Nathan Sturgis played for Seattle last year; Cam Weaver is from Shoreline and played at Skagit Valley Community College.
Lineups — Seattle Sounders: Michael Gspurning; Zach Scott, Patrick Ianni, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Marc Burch; Roger Levesque, Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Alvaro Fernandez; Fredy Montero, David Estrada. On the bench: Bryan Meredith (GK), Servando Carrasco, Alex Caskey, Leo Gonzalez, Sammy Ochoa, Jeff Parke, Christian Sivebæk.
Houston Dynamo: Tally Hall; Andre Hainault, Bobby Boswell, Geoff Cameron, Corey Ashe; Colin Clark, Adam Moffat, Je-Vaughn Watson, Brad Davis; Brian Ching, Will Bruin. On the bench: Tyler Deric (GK), Luiz Camargo, Calen Carr, Mac Kandji, Nathan Sturgis, Jermaine Taylor, Cam Weaver.
6:30 — The Sounders are on the field for the warm-up. It’s a sunny day in Seattle, although the Xbox Pitch at Century Link Field is shaded by the stands towering above the field. Today, Seattle (1-0-0) looks to win its second game in a row. Its opponent, Houston Dynamo (2-0-0) has gotten it done on the road twice in this young season. Houston is in the midst of a seven-game road trip to start the season, hitting Chivas and San Jose before making its way to the Pacific Northwest. However, in nine all-time meetings between these two clubs, the away team has never won. Should be a good one. Lineups coming soon.
Watch the game live on NBC Sports (channel 34 or 626 on Comcast in Seattle). Because of the national broadcast, tonight’s game kicks off at 7:21 p.m.
