Student Senate Highlights for Dec. 1

Collegiums committee:

The recently established collegiums committee met last week to discuss recommendations to offer to senate; they will meet again next week and will present senate with a recommendation of action shortly thereafter.

Student Christmas Party:

A proposal for a transfer student Christmas party passed unanimously: The proposal will allocate $225 from the General Fund for Kevin Lakey and Kevan Lee to host a Christmas party for transfer students. The proposal passed without debate.

Spirit Squad Funding:

The Spirit Squad Club proposal for equipment passed unanimously. The proposal allocates $191.65 from the General Fund to provide a stereo and dance and cheer videos. Debate ensued on whether software requested in the proposal for "cutting" songs would be operated legally.

D.C. Conference Proposal:

A proposal to send a student to a conference in D.C. passed with two votes against. The proposal will allocate $350 from the conference fund ($4,613 pre-proposal) to send Kevan Yalowitz to the Conservative Political Action Committee 2004 Conference (CPAC) from Jan. 22nd to the 25th. Yalowitz said, "This is going to advance the political science department because it’s not often that we send a student across the country to do something like this."
